Crossing the border between Mexico and Belize was like stepping out of Latin America and into another continent. With influences from Garifuna, Creole, Maya, and Mestizo, it really stands out a bit. This country does not use Spanish as their official language, but English, and after being approached in Spanish for quite some time at this point, I accidentally answered people back in Spanish.Continue reading “Belize part 1: Cotton Tree Lodge”
Ever been to Uruguay? This country is not seldom forgotten between its more popular neighbors Brazil and Argentina. A lot of travelers miss out of Uruguay due to logistic reasons since it is super easy to cross the border between Argentina and Brazil at the Iguazu Falls. These falls are also on almost every South American backpacker’s bucket list and Uruguay does not have anything that compares to that, nor sights such as Machu Picchu and the Salt Dessert. Some people also simply miss out of visiting Uruguay due to the lack of knowledge about it.
I met my dear friend Lisa in 2009, while we were both working as Au Pairs in New Zealand. We were just about to turn 20 and at the beginning of our adult lives. “If you move abroad, you will always have your feet in two places. You might never be truly happy because from the moment you leave your soul is divided and wherever you are, one part of you will always be calling to the other.”Continue reading “Do not move abroad – Or do it!”
When I was about 12 years old, I told my parents that I wanted to become a dolphin trainer and move to Spain when I grew up. Combining the two things I loved, travels and animals. Only a few months later it was time to choose a third language to study in school. No surprise there, I chose Spanish. I have always had a tough time with languages though, I guess I was more of a math smart kid. Learning languages has never come easy for me, but I was determined to learn Spanish.
